Onychomycosis (nail fungus) is a common and difficult affliction of the nails, usually toenails. Treatment with drugs and/or surgery have low cure rates and high relapse rates. The problem is that the infecting fungus becomes deeply embedded and therefore hard to reach with either systemic or topical antifungal medication.

Laser therapy has the advantage of being able to penetrate deep into the skin and nails. The high local heat of the laser beam kills the fungus permanently, allowing a new, normal nail to regrow. Typically two treatments are required to achieve a full recovery.
